New Year, New You?

As the new year swings around and our list of intentions, plans and goals stack up.  It’s important to stick to a simple routine and try to support yourself, not punish. At Hey Jo we find creating S.M.A.R.T goals the most effective way to successfully achieve them.

 

S pecific

M easurable

A chievable

R ealistic

T imely

 

Specific

Set your self specific goals as you have a much greater chance to accomplishing them. Instead of saying you want to exercise more set your goal as 2/3 times a week instead.

Measurable

Establish specific criteria for measuring progress towards the attainment of each goal you set. Stay on track and reach your targets by measuring your progress, this makes your goals more of an achievement once completed. To determine if your goals are measurable ask yourself how will you know when it is accomplished?

 

Achievable

Once you have defined which goals are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can achieve them. You develop the attitudes, abilities and skills to reach them.  Any goal can be achieved when you plan and set a timeframe to complete your goals.

Realistic

We find this goal to be one of the most curtail when planning what you wish to achieve. To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work.

Timely

This is simple any goal must have a time frame. With no timeframe there is no sense of urgency.

To get you on your way we find these are the best places to start and are a great foundation for any goals you wish to achieve in 2017.

 

  • No alcohol for 6 weeks, this is how long it takes your liver to detoxify itself, this alone helps with sleep, skin and reducing that festive bloat.

 

  • Exercise, find something that motivates you, whether it be the gym, a class or doing it the old fashioned way and getting outside. Keep consistent, don’t go hell for leather for the first week and then go when the mood takes you. Finding an exercise partner is a great for keeping you motivated and accountable.

 

  • Eat 3 meals a day, once again consistency is key to getting back on track this new year. After over indulging try and eat at home (great for the purse strings) eat fresh and balanced meals.

 

We are aware that this is nothing new and no big secret has been revealed, it really is as simple as that. Where people fall short is to try and take on the world (with the best intentions) and are surprised when they find themselves at the end of the January, having not achieved their intention.
